Role Summary:
GE tests commercial & military jet engines and engine components. As Lead Civil / Structural Engineer, you will have direct impact on design of test facilities for current & future engines. The role would involve designing & leading installation of test facility buildings, concrete & steel structures, hoists & cranes, land surveying, soil analysis etc. You will be part of a fantastic cross-functional team of Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Engineers designing and building test facilities.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned individual and team projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel / cross functional teams supporting the assigned project
  • Implement plans with guidance to meet technical requirements of assigned components and systems
  • Develop action plans with guidance to respond to issues / problems
  • Lead or participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
  • Recommend, with guidance, the approach to meet the technical and program requirements
  • Participate and present or review in technical and program reviews
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (Or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Engineering)
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an Engineering position

  • MS Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college (Or a BS Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering position)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (Up to date license in any State)
  • 5 years of Civil / Structural engineering experience
  • CAD Proficient
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functional boundaries
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) & experience managing schedule / budget
  • Completing or directing others to complete accurate evaluations of structural systems using:
    • FEA
    • Dynamic Analysis
    • Ansys
    • Caesar
    • Heat Transfer Analysis
    • or other analysis packages

  • Designing and leading the installation of:
    • support structures
    • test facility buildings
    • and structural infrastructure from a civil engineering perspective
    • concrete
    • steel
    • land surveying
    • soil, etc.

  • Directing others in identifying and designing test cell requirements for environmental parameters including acoustics and emissions
  • Designing piping systems and associated structural supports in accordance with ASME B31.1 (Code for Pressure Power Piping) and B31.3 (Code for Pressure Process Piping)
    • Writing design, construction, and procurement specifications
    • Obtain budgetary quotes
    • and then implement the project once approved

  • Directing a team of architects, engineers, and outside contractors to complete the mission
    • This includes both unionized and non-unionized work forces

  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams
  • Lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational ability
