Role Summary:
An Engineer in this position will be responsible for the development of conjugate thermal software used to design and analyze the cooling for Hot Gas Path (HGP) Turbine Components - specifically Blades, Nozzles & Shrouds. Under the guidance of a team leader, the engineer will work closely with the Cooling design communities across Aviation and Power to ensure the software meets the requirements. Will work across a broad development team to integrate within larger design / analysis systems.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Work closely and be a liaison with the design organizations across GE businesses to establish technical requirements and define / share best practices across GE Aviation & GE Power
  • Implement new technology in the software, and verify the implementation to ensure tool quality
  • Provide timely communications to the design community on significant new features and known issues
  • Deploy the software regularly
  • Ensure seamless integration of the software with other software in related engineering disciplines
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data / methodologies, and communicate the material to technical leaders
  • Maintain a large regression test suite for the software to guarantee robustness
  • Meet the training and support needs of the design community

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an Engineering role

Desired Characteristics:
  • PhD degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering disciplines from an accredited university or college (Or a Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering disciplines from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an Engineering role; Or a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering disciplines from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 4 years of experience in an Engineering role)
  • Strong engineering software programming skills - Fortran, C/C++/C#, shell scripting
  • Strong knowledge of physics, especially in the domains of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Strong background in finite element analysis (FEA) and finite element meshing (FEM)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical data clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written reports
  • Proven track record in collaborating with multiple teams and customers to understand and solve engineering problems
  • Demonstrated understanding of heat transfer design & analysis methods
  • Knowledge of the cooling technology used in HGP Turbine Components (Blades, Nozzles & Shrouds)
  • Knowledge of 1-D fluid network software and/or methodologies
  • Knowledge of CAD modeling and finite element mesh generation; skills with NX a plus
  • Strong skills in developing, coding, testing and deploying design tools
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to solve technical problems
  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer requirements and draft plans to meet them
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an AGILE or FastWorks development environment
  • Familiarity with HyperWorks software
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Gov't Clearance
