GE Aviation is looking for Engineers to join our fast-growing Advanced Military Engineering business. The Staff Engineer - Metallic Materials Application Engineer provides materials expertise and technical leadership for material systems across the turbine engine. In this role you will work with new products and legacy teams to solve complex technical problems. The role requires horizontal partnership with design, sourcing, and quality to ensure robust technical solutions for the customer.
Provide materials guidance to multiple design customers for products including but not limited to Rotating Parts
Lead horizontal teams (materials, design, manufacturing, quality) to solve complex technical challenges across material systems
Execute technical programs to advance maturity of advanced material systems which require deep domain expertise
Provide systems level thinking to ensure robust material selections are made that consider the engine lifecycle and operating environment
Make cross-product linkages to ensure lessons learned are communicated to the materials department, design boards, and technical communities
Proactively recommend best practices and lessons-learned within appropriate commodity teams
Communicate significant developments with leadership and consult on technical roadmap development
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for key projects consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
In this role, you will gain or build:
Systems thinking through the broader integration of design, materials science, manufacturing, and quality
Breadth of understanding of military engine components for current and next generation applications
PhD from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 2 years of experience with aerospace industry manufacturing, quality systems and/or field support
M.S. Degree from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 5 years of experience with aerospace industry manufacturing, quality systems and/or field support
B.S. Degree from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 8 years of experience with aerospace industry manufacturing, quality systems and/or field support
Experience with nickel and cobalt base superalloys, titanium alloys, and high strength steels
Knowledge of manufacturing processes (casting, forging, coatings), quality systems, and failure analysis methods is desirable
Strong Oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to work independently
