Role Summary:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to become the Business Unit Leader for the rapidly growing Military Power product lines at the Cheltenham campus, reporting into the Military Power Value Stream Leader. In summary, you will ensure both the daily operations and leadership of the business unit and will be responsible for strategic vision of the manufacturing operation with ownership of Safety, Quality, On Time Delivery and Cost for a team of over 100 people.
Essential Responsibilities:
With the business unit delivering complex systems to some of the most advanced Aviation programs in the world, you will have the opportunity to have a significant business impact. The programs are in a critical phase, with high expectations both in terms of delivery and cost management and this role requires an experienced operational management professional with a clear passion for both continuous improvement/Lean and organisational development.
In this role you will be required to demonstrate the
ability to manage complex issues within and across your team(s), integrate and
develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, be involved
in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy. You
must embrace and model the leadership behaviours of teaming. Other duties
include but aren't limited to the following:
  • Lead
    the Military Power manufacturing operation to achieve defined safety, quality
    (customer & scrap/rework), delivery, cost out (productivity) & cash
    (cycle) target
  • Ensure
    compliance with all applicable regulations. This role has Form 4 responsibility
  • Drive
    Lean manufacturing principles to deliver ambitious improvement targets
  • Champion
    outstanding daily management to drive operational excellence in business unit.
  • Collaborate
    with team on process/product improvement programs and provide process method
    excellence throughout the organization - develop and execute lean road map
  • Collaborate
    with team(s) and production planning to establish production schedules and
    monitor performance versus schedule
  • Actively
    work with teams to understand metrics in areas of production, safety, &
    compliance to enhance individual and team skills
  • Identify
    and encourage learning opportunities (including cross-functional) in order to
    enhance individual and team performance
  • Maintain
    positive employee relations by working with employees to resolve employee
    relations issues and concerns involving HR when needed assisting with career
    development and training
  • Ensure
    fair and consistent application of company and departmental policies and
    practices
  • Empower
    teams to set goals/metrics, make decisions, and take accountability/ownership
    for such things as production, quality, continuous improvement, safety,
    housekeeping and overall policy adherence
  • Develop
    and manage high level budgets and team headcount levels. Continue to track
    sales, expense, inventory, and investment budgets at high level
  • Ensure
    communication of key business/customer issues to team(s)
  • Facilitate
    the team(s) in decision-making and problem solving and provide effective
    communication across within and across team(s)
  • Develop
    and execute long term strategic plans to meet customer & business
    objectives
  • Ensure
    an open flow of communication exists between team(s) and support teams,
    including leadership team
  • The
    manufacturing operation will be moving location to a fully refurbished facility
    in Q2 2020 and the BUL will require close co-ordination with the project team.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent knowledge & experience
  • Significant experience in Operations Management
  • Prior experience with regulatory agencies, knowledge of requirements & deployment of a Quality Management System
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and motivate employees and/or teams through commitment to meeting customer and organization demands
  • Knowledge of the disciplines of manufacturing management such as production and inventory control, and standard cost systems
