Job Description Essential Responsibilities
The Electronic Engineering Leader is a functional manager to a hardware engineering team engaged in the design, development and qualification of safety critical electronic product solutions within the Power Distribution and Controls engineering organization. You will develop a high performing engineering team, drive goal setting, coaching, and training by providing leadership and technical direction within your team. Your responsibilities will be to:
- Provide functional leadership and technical direction to your team - ensure adherence to regulatory, company and functional processes and procedures.
- Manage resource supply and demand for your team, including recruitment of permanent and temporary staff, working with GE global sites and outsource of work packages to suppliers.
- Define roles and responsibilities for your team optimizing the team structure to maximize the efficiency of the team.
- Assure technical quality, timely and on-budget completion of work with effective use of resources and responsiveness to customer / program needs.
- Establish priorities for staff in your team that align with company and divisional objectives.
- Promote professional growth through timely performance feedback and ongoing coaching. Conduct appraisals and participate in salary planning.
- Ensure collaboration with cross-functional teams and facilitate communication of technical and business information between groups.
- Guide the team to embrace an innovative approach to problem solving and design implementation.
- Drive a Lean focus into your team.
- Work with the New Business group to plan and cost proposals for new projects.
- Ensure company compliance training requirements are implemented within your team
Relevant degree or similar qualification- Demonstrable experience in a project leadership or new product introduction role across the full life cycle and ideally within a safety critical environment
- Strong knowledge of electronic product design and development processes
- Significant functional and line management experience
- Able to strategically prioritize work with strong oral and written communication skills sharing critical information and speaking with candor
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills
- Good problem solver and able to challenge existing processes, whilst contributing in a collaborative manner.
Desired Characteristics
Understanding of regulatory requirements for aerospace complex hardware design- An understanding of DO-254 as applicable to Custom Logic design and verification
- Working knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements for safety critical products (ideally gained in an avionics or similar environment)
- Formal Management training with effective team building or project management ability
- Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
- Lean or six sigma knowledge
