Senior Engineer-Embedded Software Development

Job Description Summary Responsible for designing , developing, testing, and leading Embedded Software (Firmware), platforms and systems that control and runs on devices that need to be tailored to the needs of the hardware that it has to control and run on (i.e. directly controls the real time functions of a physical device such as motors, alternators, engines, valves, fans, and other devices and products). Typically requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of the physical device being controlled, the realtime functions it is expected to perform and the ability to design, develop, implement, and test the logic and software required to realize the realtime functionality. Usually tailored for products and services across various P&Ls. Impacts the team's ability to achieve service, quality and timeliness of objectives. The role is subject to operating policy objectives. There is moderate autonomy within the role. High levels of operational judgment are required to achieve outcomes required.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide support for the full software development lifecycle, expert knowledge of DO-178
• Provide strong technical leadership, involving driving projects thru the SW lifecycle leading multi-site team members
• Mentorship of multiple less experienced team members
• Familiarity with multi-core processors to include TI and Sharc processors
• Systems understanding of power generation/conversion in aviation
• SW architecture experience related to power electronics, where execution time is highly desirable
• Ability to collaborate across functions (Systems, SW, HW, Test)
• Direct experience with Boeing customer
• Able to drive site-wide Systems/SW standards and guidelines
• Able to manage technical/schedule/budget to meet internal and external deliverables/milestones
• Write and review software requirements to meet requirement standards
• Write and review software architecture and low-level design to meet design standards. Expert experience coding in the C programming language at different levels to include low level drivers, middle and application layers
• Coding in Assembly language for specific processor when desirable
• Support continuous improvement on software development best practices
• Work cross functionally to ensure software meets customer requirements
• Support FAA and customer DO-178C technical meetings and Stage of Involvement audits. Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
• Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Engineering or related degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 12 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
• 10--15 years of full life cycle embedded software development experience utilizing the C programming language
