Roles and Responsibilities
The Advanced Lead Electronic HW Engineer will lead design activities for electronic products and systems. Activities will include the development of product requirements and definitions, detailed circuit design, component selection and test plans definition.
He/She will also support projects through design reviews and will be available to provide technical advice to other peers, departments, customers and suppliers, as well as to help prepare the technical content of new product proposals to support bid activities.
Also will integrate and verify products and systems, and support products through environmental and EMC qualification test. Additionally, he/she will be available to diagnose and fix design problems in existing products.
Activities will include, but not be limited to:
- Design for safety, testability, and manufacturability
- Define Hardware architecture
- Select electronic components for rugged environments
- Schematic capture
- PCB area estimation, power dissipation, component stress and layout
- Troubleshoot electrical circuits
- Perform Circuit Worst Case Analysis
- Perform Electrical simulation
- Support PCB design with EMC and manufacturability guidelines
- Support mechanical design, software, test engineering, and manufacturing
- Support qualification and acceptance testing
Required Qualifications
- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Electronic Hardware. Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
- Strong experience developing analog circuitry including analysis, simulations and hands-on activities within laboratory environment
- In depth understanding of analog and power electronics theory
- Experience defining requirements, developing specifications and selecting electronic components for power electronics applications, and ability to work with suppliers to ensure technical requirements are met
- Ability to diagnosis technical issues in Electronic Power systems and to develop practical solutions suitable for manufacture
- The candidate will be able to demonstrate leadership on complex technical problem solution as well as to check own and other people's work
- The candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of improving design techniques and processes
- Capable of developing and writing specifications and test plans for Power Electronic products.
- In depth expertise with eCAD design tools (Altium, Mentor or similar)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
Desired Characteristics
- Development to DO-254 and DO-160 standards
- Power electronics (MOSFET's, Diodes, Thyristors, IGBT's) operation theory
- DC/DC and DC/AC converters design experience
- Understanding of thermal issues associated with electronic systems
- Experience coaching Engineers in Electronic Engineering design
