Senior Engineering Project Manager
Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England
If you are an Engineering Project Manager with a proven track record of successful project execution, delivering large, complex systems - preferably safety or mission critical, then we are waiting for you to join our team.
Join us and you'll find yourself in a dynamic environment where our ongoing, substantial investment in research and development keeps us moving forward and looking ahead. At GE, developing people is embedded in our culture and integral to our growth. Here, you'll work collaboratively and across functions with the highest caliber talent, utilising cutting-edge technology and processes. Whether it's the next generation of 'ecomagination' products or the cockpit of tomorrow, we've got the state-of-the-art resources to make those innovations a reality.
Job Description Roles and Responsibilities
This post offers a challenging but rewarding opportunity to lead from the front in a highly influential role.
You will manage the project through the design lifecycle, leading our multi-disciplined, cross functional team to deliver agreed scope within cost, quality and schedule constraints, pro-actively managing change as it happens.
Providing senior leadership and support to the functional teams, you will drive and challenge them to strive for execution excellence, providing robust plans and forecasts, helping solve technical problems and removing obstacles to allow for project delivery and client satisfaction.
The Senior Engineering Project Manager works alongside the Portfolio or Programme Manager and is responsible for ensuring that project communication is managed accordingly, across the stakeholder map, including Customer, Engineering Functions, Finance, Quality and Supply Chain. The communications include (but are not limited to) status reports, project metrics, resource requirements, problem and solution reporting and requests for help, alongside advertising successes and celebrating the wins.
Change management plays an active part in the role of Senior Engineering project manager - you will be responsible for all aspects of Engineering change including scope management, cost and schedule variations and actively manage the project accordingly to achieve or improve on the baseline.
Developing relationships is a key part of this role as you will be liaising with clients and also managing project teams whilst supervising and developing junior team members. You may also be supporting preparation of tenders and proposals.
Qualifications and Requirements
Enthusiastic, self-motivated and driven, you will join our growing team, with the appetite to liaise directly with clients, build trust quickly and help to drive project execution excellence - sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices, and always seeking to be forward thinking and going the extra mile to help us maintain our excellent performance.
You have demonstrable experience creating and maintaining high performing teams, developing and mentoring others and delivering on commitments, through a 'one team - one result' ethos built on trust, personal responsibility, ownership and accountability. You want to deliver - for the client, for the business and for yourself.
You will have successful experience of managing technically complex projects, preferably on safety critical systems in a highly regulated industry.
You enjoy using a flexible approach to managing the demands of a project and applying skills in new areas. You will be largely autonomous and quickly understand a wide range of design practices, processes and governance, alongside current project status and be able to communicate this to a variety of levels, internal and external to the organisation, both verbally and written.
You demonstrate the following leadership behaviours:
- Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn
- Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candour, contributes constructively
- Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritises work, committed
- Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative
- Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, or comparable experience/knowledge.
Experience of Prince 2, Agile methodologies or PMP/PMI accreditation highly desired
