JOB PURPOSE
The Delivery Lead is responsible for leading internal and external resources within the Data Engineering practice who contribute to and execute on delivering enterprise-grade data products for the business. The role reports into the Senior Technology Manager for Data and will work with data consumers across the business to prioritise and drive requirements for intake into the Data Engineering product teams. The role will also manage budgets, supplier relationships and work closely with the service teams to deliver the needs of the projects and programmes into Production service.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Line Management of the Business Analysts and Technical Architects within Data Engineering
- Manage supplier delivery resources (e.g., scrum masters) - ensuring transparency on delivery throughput, capacity, and project billing information
- Acts as first point of contact for programme/project managers and product owners for Data Engineering delivery matters
- Acts as a first point of contact for Data Engineering Project statuses, and support Service Management activities of service design and transition for new data services.
- Leads the collaborative, dynamic demand planning process in Data Engineering, estimating, and costing up the work, along with prioritising workload against the capacity and capability of the team
- Identifies conflicts and dependencies between change initiatives, raising these with the relevant project managers and product owners, ensures all risks and issues are captured, tracked and appropriate actions taken
- Ensures all design, quality and security governance processes are followed within Technical Architecture (Data) in line with the direction set out by the Strategy and Architecture team, in particular assurance that all data solutions are built with non-functionals in mind, i.e., they are supportable, stable, secure and performant
- Supports delivery of data solutions through agile delivery processes or, where appropriate more traditional approaches covering initiation, design, build, test, release, and support
- Accountability for end-to-end delivery into Production, ensuring a balance of agility and quality.
- Create consistency in how the Business Analyst Data practice operates with our key stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to compliance, info security, and risk registers are updated where necessary.
- Champions and encourages adherence to process and standards
- Actively participates in the IT community, sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge and bringing in best practice for delivery management.
- Continuously drives process improvements
- Ensure appropriate levels of delivery and technical documentation are maintained.
- Publicise the deliveries and achievements that come from the Data Engineering team, to improve adoption and recognise our people.
Summary of SKILLS REQUIRED
- Proven demand and delivery management experience, gained in a big data and analytics environment
- Experience of managing and delivering data projects
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, both in-person and remotely
- Line management experience, coaching and developing capabilities within the team
- Understanding of Data Engineering and Data Science concepts
- Proven stakeholder management skills, experienced in management and influencing in a matrix organisation
- Understanding of operational procedures and process standards (e.g. ITIL) and applying and evaluating them for continuous improvements in the service.
