Job Description Summary GE Edison Works Engineering Materials Systems (EMS) organization has an opening for a materials science engineer. This individual will work cross-functionally to help invent and mature new materials technologies for next generation military products.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Help execute key material development programs by owning the execution of assigned technology readiness level (TRL) maturation activities
  • Partner with the EMS team leaders to develop new concepts to fill gaps material systems roadmaps and help guide the development of early technology projects
  • Raise awareness of top technical risks with development and legacy materials systems and work with the team to develop mitigation plans
  • Complete systems-level analysis of proposed material and process applications across multiple engine platforms using materials expertise
  • Communicate significant developments with leadership
  • Lead technical reviews and participate as a reviewer
  • Organize EMS input / presentations to various meetings and reviews
  • Document lessons learned and establish best practices/standard work


Required Qualifications
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D Degree in Materials Science or related Engineering field from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years experience in an engineering position
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
  • Ability to secure and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
  • Ability to work in-person on-site >75% of the time


Desired Characteristics
  • Existing DoD Security Clearance
  • Experience leading a technical development program, managing budgets and milestone commitments
  • Experience proposing new technical programs including budget and timing estimates
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to guide and influence others, especially those not in a direct reporting position


This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
