Database Administrator (DBA)
Reporting to the Database Administration (DBA) Manager, the Microsoft SQL Server DBA will work as part of a team of highly skilled DBAs. The successful candidate will work within the Production Support and Projects Teams in the DBA Team which supports the Jet2 .com and Jet2Holidays ecommerce estates and the operational estate which supports Flight Operations and critical internal systems.
Your responsibilities would include ownership of Performance Tuning for the SQL estate as well as running and assisting in strategic Microsoft SQL Server projects. Your key duties would include T-SQL performance analysis (using tools such as SentryOne) and regular interaction with the internal Production Support and Release Support DBA Teams. It would also include regular project planning, and assisting in projects via the Projects Team and reporting project progress up to your manager and project stakeholders.
The successful candidate would possess strong PowerShell, Automation and Performance Tuning skills and experience, have a good knowledge of execution plans and have an ambition to constantly improve and keep up to date with technology. You will be keen to implement standards, and able to use Source Control. Team Foundation Server (TFS)/Git experience is an advantage here. Effective triage/workload/time-management and good communication skills are essential for this role. In addition, you will have experience with SQL Server platform migrations.
With a proven track record of experience in other areas of DBA, including Production Support (SQL 2000-2014) you will have experience working with highly-transactional sales systems (ecommerce), with a strong understanding of database software release and performance-lead code reviewing. Knowledge and experience of AlwaysOn Availability Groups is also essential and you should be familiar with the most common wait types and what they mean. An understanding of Microsoft SQL 2016/2017 is essential.
An MCSA/MCSE would be an advantage, as well as evidence of advanced training courses in the areas mentioned above. There is an Oracle and NoSQL estate, so basic knowledge of these areas would also be an advantage, but is not a requirement. Experience of public/private cloud platforms (Azure/AWS & Virtual Machine Manager) would also provide you with an advantage.
There will be an on-call element to the role, which is rotated evenly along with the other SQL Server DBAs.
