Design Engineer-Mechanical Systems
Our client is a world-class strategic partner for engineering-driven organizations that develop, support, operate and maintain complex equipment. They serve a broad range of industry sectors, including commercial and VIP aviation, aerospace and defence, manufacturing and other industries.
To support the design and certification of aircraft interior modifications by generation, review and approval of certification documentation to demonstrate compliance with relevant regulatory and customer requirements. Working directly with the Electrical systems, Structural and Cabin Interior Engineers to provide aircraft level changes relating to environmental control systems (ECS) including oxygen, ventilation, heating and air conditioning, potable, grey and waste water systems. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Reporting to the Design Manager and working with the global engineering services team, across multiple time-zones, in order to identify certification requirements and solutions for active and upcoming aircraft cabin interior reconfiguration projects. - Develop engineering design and substantiation, including flow analysis, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and decompression analysis to support aircraft interior changes such as: o Removal, relocation and introduction of lavatory and galley complexes on wide and narrow body aircraft types o Introduction of changes to the cabin interior layout of sufficient magnitude where ECS and decompression characteristics require further evaluation o Installation of externally mounted antennae with potential impact on noise and handling characteristics of the aircraft - Produce analytical reports with hand calculations and computational analysis to provide evidence that any changes to mechanical systems satisfy the airframe and airworthiness requirements. - Produce test plans and reports for conducting testing or analysis to demonstrate compliance - Review and approve substantiation documentation produced by other members of staff or by suppliers to provide assurance of successful showing of compliance with relevant customer and regulatory requirements.
Current or recent employment within the aerospace industry working with an EASA Part 21, Subpart J Design Organisation. - Able to demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of EASA regulatory and applicable airworthiness requirements including CS-25, JAR-25 and FAR 25 requirements. - Knowledge and experience of aircraft interior reconfiguration programmes with a strong background in mechanical systems for cabin interior and exterior installations and a high level of attention to detail and capability of reviewing design packages. - Ability to work on multiple programmes with varying level of requirements efficiently and effectively. - Ability to prioritise workloads and show flexibility to changing situations / demands.
Minimum Bachelor's Degree within Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering and/or at least 5-10 years' experience in related commercial aircraft design fields.
